If you have multiple sets of sheet and pillow cases, you can wash one set and put the other set on. And any dust mites that hung on through the washer and dryer will die off by the time you get them back to your bed. Now for those of you who want to know how to kill dust mites, another important tool, as you would expect, is the vacuum. Vacuum frequently and vacuum everywhere. Don’t skip the blinds or the corners. Make sure to get everywhere. Also if you’re not able to throw out carpet in some areas, be sure to steam all carpet at least twice a month. Use the hottest setting possible on the steamer and steam all your carpet and blinds.

Get Washable Toys!

Let’s be real here. Those plush stuffed toys are a favorite haven of the dust mite. Another big thing I told my cousin when teaching him how to kill dust mites was to toss as many of his kids’ stuffed animals as he could get away with. And tell those dang stuffed-animal-buying grandparents to only buy washable toys. Wash all the stuffed animals you can, and if they are not washable, make sure to run a steamer wand over them and shake or beat them off outdoors. But then you need to get rid of the corpses and feces. With carpet and drapes, just vacuum like crazy after steaming. The truth is, you cannot completely kill off all dust mites. There is always going to be some around in your home. Also if you can, use an air filter, one with HEPA filters in it. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air which basically means tiny things like dust mites can’t get through. HEPA will really help you when figuring out how to kill dust mites. There is also sprays on the markets that can help. There is a product I have heard good things about called Dust-Mitex. It’s on Amazon for about 10 bucks, and it is used by spraying it on upholstery, carpets, mattresses, and other furniture.
